We will seek locally produced products, whenever possible. Why buy local? First, because some food in large supermarket chains may travel 1500 miles before reaching your table. Besides the environmental impact of this, the food quality certainly breaks down during that long trip. Secondly, it preserves land for the future. By making farming profitable, farmers will stay in farming, the land stays open and undeveloped. For more compelling reasons, visit the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project and read about their mission and why we are working with them.
That's why Poppies feels it's so important to make this connection with our local producers and hope that our shoppers support this effort. We have breads from Sylva and Brevard, salad greens and veggies from Brevard, eggs from Weaverville, meat from Fairview and apples from Hendersonville to name a few.
It doesn't get any fresher than this. So fresh you can almost taste the sun and the earth.
